Chandrima Bhattacharya is an Indian politician who is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress Party. She is the current Minister of State for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs (I/C), Health and Family Welfare, Land and Land Reforms, and Refugee and Rehabilitation in the government of West Bengal. Before this, she served as a Minister in the first reshuffle of the ministry in January 2012 after Mamata Banerjee became the chief minister. In October 2012, she also served as the Junior Law Minister. After that in November 2012, she was promoted as a cabinet minister and she was given the independent charge of the Law and Judicial department in the government of West Bengal.
Early life and Education
Chandrima Bhattacharya was born on 5 December 1955. She is currently 66 years old as of 2021. She completed her B. Com Degree in 1972 and after that in 1976 she obtained an LL.B degree from the University of Calcutta. She was a practicing advocate in Calcutta High Court till the 2011 elections as she took part in the 2011 elections.
She now resides at 57E Garcha road in Kolkata.
Political career
In 2011, she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly on the ticket from All India Trinamool Congress from Dum Dum Uttar (Vidhan Sabha constituency). At that time the constituency was established. She served that position till 2016 as she was succeeded by Tanmoy Bhattacharya. From 2017 to 2021, she served as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for the Kanthi Dakshin constituency. She was preceded by Dibyendu Adhikari and was succeeded by Arup Kumar Das.
Later on, 2 May 2021, she again became a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for the Dum Dum Uttar constituency and still serves from the same constituency. She was preceded by Tanmoy Bhattacharya.
